Death toll in godown slab collapse in Kozhikode rises to four

The death toll in the collapse of a concrete slab at a city corporation-owned building at Valiyangadi in Kozhikode on Monday has risen to four with one more headload worker succumbing to his injuries on Monday evening.

Vinod (55), a native of Thiruvangoor, who was undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital with serious injuries, died on Monday evening. The other three who died in the accident are Ashraf, Jabbar and Basheer.

The concrete slab came crashing down on the workers who were resting outside the building. Those trapped under the slabs were rescued by other workers and the Fire and Rescue personnel and shifted to the hospital.

The Fire and Rescue personnel sliced through the concrete blocks to retrieve those trapped under the rubble. The incident happened at around 12.25 pm on Monday.
